To change a person and achieve their potential, they need to be empowered, by information. Empowerment means awakening spiritual, mental & physical nature of the human being and helping that person work for the betterment of the community. If we empower women, we empower India….Pledge for excellence.

How can we empower INDIA?

BY reaching out

– To adolescents

– To young adults

– To women in reproductive age group

– To women above 40 years

– To senior citizens

Empower India by reaching out to young people

For any women, her youthful years are those in which she will take many decisions which will set the course of life. In these years she is most likely to complete her education, begin to be financially independent, marries & start to raise her own family. During this period mind is most questing and right information, an enabling environment and supportive services will help the youth take informed decisions regarding important health issues and contribute to a better future. Let’s start with the adolescent women. The pubertal period is the time when body changes are taking place in a girl’s body and they start menstruating.

Sexual maturity comes with some potential but easily avoidable problem i.e. infection of the genital tract. Unsafe sexual behavior may lead to:

(1) Unwanted pregnancies

(2) Unsafe abortion

(3) STDs, HIV, AIDS

(4) Pelvic pain, infertility, cancer of the cervix.

Sexual abuse should not be tolerated. Girls have to learn to stand up for themselves. 80% of abusers are family, friends, and acquaintances.

By medical counseling in a friendly discussion, sexual abuse can be minimized as women shall be able to stand up for themselves.

Knowledge of proper nutrition in terms of future health is very important as anemic and osteoporotic women are not able to cope up with routine life activities. They are not able to realize the full potential and they might be tired all the time.

Exercise increases stamina and strength. It builds and tones up muscles and keeps women fit. Incidences of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and hypertension are reduced. Women should be taught about safe sexual practices, safe abortion, to avoid substance abuse in the form of cocaine, tobacco, and alcohol. Women hold future generations on their shoulders so they should be educated about their future role in raising their kids. Youths should be offered vaccines against rubella & cervical cancer. Rubella virus infection during pregnancy can cause a birth defect in a child, so rubella vaccination can protect future progeny, while cervical cancer vaccine protects against HPV infection. HPV infection transmitted by sexual contact causes 99.7% of cervix cancer (cervix is the mouth of the uterus).

Empower India by educating women in reproductive age group

A millennium development goal by 2015 is to achieve women empowerment by reducing child mortality rate, to improve maternal mortality rate, to combat HIV, AIDS, and STDs.

Janani Suraksha Yojana has brought about a dramatic increase in hospital deliveries rate in young mothers from 47% in 2008 to 79% in 2013.

Implementation of PCPNDT act to ensure that no female has to go for sex selection and sex selection feticide.

In Indian women, cancer of the cervix (mouth of the uterus) is most common; though in cities like Delhi, cancer of breast cases are raising. These days cancer awareness is very important. Healthy eating habits, exercise, weight reduction, avoidance of smoking & drinking can reduce chances of having cancer.

Women should be taught about sexual hygiene, safe sexual practices, and annual checkup with a gynecologist for Pap smear, breast examination, and mammography.

Empower India by reaching out to menopausal women

In menopausal women, awareness about cancers, osteoporosis, and hormonal changes is very important.

By life style changes, obesity can be reduced, thus reducing coronary artery disease, few cancers, and osteoarthritis.

How can we help our fellow women?

By attending focused workshops for training and capacity building maternity care, like

  1. Post-partum hemorrhage – predict, prevent and handle
  2. Recent advances in management of hypertensive disorders
  3. Management of fetal growth restriction
  4. Current trends in management of preterm labor
  5. Neonatal resuscitation
  6. Caesarian skills
  7. Communication skills

If women empower themselves by medical awareness, productivity of whole family increases which ultimately will lead to a national and global wellbeing.
